What to Expect When You’re Connecting – The Challenge of Adding Smart Buildings to Modern Cities
Welcome to What to Expect When You’re Connecting, the second season of our Soracom podcast. I’m your host, Ryan Carlson. We may have had a small rebrand, but this is still a podcast for IoT professionals and the IoT Curious who find themselves responsible for growing, executing, or educating others about the challenges that come with connecting products and services to the internet.

In this Episode – Smart Buildings: Deploying Multi-Tenant Monitoring Systems in Dense Urban Environments
As IoT technology continues to proliferate, smart devices are carving out an increasingly important role in building maintenance and monitoring. Yet despite this growing adoption of smart building technologies, deploying IoT solutions in a large city still comes with considerable challenges.
In this week’s episode, we speak with the founders of monitoring solution ProSentry, Nadav Schnall and John Rusk. Together, we discuss the company’s development, practical applications, and technological challenges of deploying their connected products throughout major metropolises like New York City.
We explore how their system utilizes LoRaWAN sensors and cellular connectivity to detect everything from gas and water leaks to pest infestations and mold growth and then inform building managers of any issues before they can do lasting harm.
Listen to learn how the team found solutions to connectivity problems through things like multi-carrier support, the potential benefits of deployed smart technologies in commercial and residential environments, what the future of smart building technologies holds, and more.
