[Podcast] Building IoT Hardware to Leverage Multiple Radio Networks

Soracom podcast season 3 logo

Welcome back to What to Expect When You’re Connecting, the Soracom podcast where we speak with the people responsible for building and deploying IoT and their experiences. This includes the ins and outs of connected technology and how these devices are shaping the world at large. I’m your host, Ryan Carlson, and in our third season, we hope to expand our mission statement beyond being a podcast for the IoT curious and instead provide a voice for the industry as a whole. That means exploring new solutions, new technologies, and new ideas – something we’d love to talk about!

In this Episode – Building IoT Hardware to Leverage Multiple Radio Networks with Blues Inc.

As IoT deployments grow increasingly complex, so too have their connectivity requirements. The increased integration of smart devices has meant IoT technologies are being pushed further than ever – literally and figuratively. Yet, not all devices are built with this kind of versatility in mind.

In this week’s episode of What to Expect When You’re Connecting, we speak with Brandon Satrom, Senior Vice President of Product and Experience at Blues Inc., about the challenges of supporting multiple radio networks’ requirements and integrating cloud endpoints with modern IoT deployments. Satrom discusses Blues’ developer-centric approach, which eliminates the need for engineers to commit to a radio access technology (RAT) at project kick-off and avoid the baggage of managing multiple versions of their device firmware.

The conversation covers topics like blended networking, the importance of supporting developer-focused communities, and the significant advantages of modular hardware design. Throughout the episode, which was recorded at Soracom’s annual Discovery event in Tokyo, Brandon shares insightful reactions to the event and discusses how Blues is simplifying IoT deployments for engineers and product builders so they can focus their energies (and embedded development resources) on other aspects of their project.
